Color converter

Type a color in any format, or pick one, to get its HEX, RGB, HSL and CMYK values and a row of shades and tints.

How it works

HEX is the red, green and blue values (0–255) written in base 16. HSL describes the same color as hue (0–360°), saturation and lightness. CMYK is derived from RGB:

K = 1 − max(R, G, B) ÷ 255C = (1 − R/255 − K) ÷ (1 − K)

Worked example

  1. #FF8A3D → FF 8A 3D
  2. 255, 138, 61
  3. rgb(255 138 61) = hsl(24 100% 62%)

Frequently asked questions

Which formats can I type?

HEX (#ff8a3d, ff8a3d or the short #f83), rgb(255 138 61) or rgb(255, 138, 61), hsl(24 100% 62%) and CSS color names like “tomato”.

Is CMYK exact for printing?

No. The CMYK values are a simple mathematical conversion. Real print colors depend on the printer, ink and paper profile, so check with your printer for brand colors.

What are shades and tints?

Shades mix the color with black, tints mix it with white. They are handy for hover states and backgrounds that match your main color.
