Ideal weight calculator
See your ideal weight by four well-known formulas and the healthy weight range for your height.
How it works
Each formula starts from a weight at 5 feet and adds an amount per inch above it (men / women, kg):
- Devine: 50 / 45.5 + 2.3 per inch
- Robinson: 52 / 49 + 1.9 / 1.7 per inch
- Miller: 56.2 / 53.1 + 1.41 / 1.36 per inch
- Hamwi: 48 / 45.5 + 2.7 / 2.2 per inch
Frequently asked questions
Why do the formulas give different results?
They were made for different purposes: Devine (1974) for drug doses, Robinson and Miller (1983) as refinements of it, Hamwi (1964) for nutrition. None of them accounts for muscle or body frame, so treat the spread as a rough range.
Which number should I use?
The healthy BMI range (18.5–24.9) for your height is the most widely used guide. The formulas usually fall inside it.
Do the formulas work for short people?
They are defined from 5 feet (152.4 cm) up; below that the results are less meaningful.
