Retirement calculator
Project how much you will have saved when you retire and the monthly income it could give you.
A projection with steady returns, not financial advice.
How it works
The savings grow every month by the yearly return ÷ 12, and the contribution is added. In today’s money the inflation rate is taken off the return. The yearly income is the savings × the withdrawal rate.
Frequently asked questions
What return should I expect?
Nobody knows. A balanced mix of stocks and bonds has historically returned around 5–7% a year before inflation. Using a lower number gives a safer plan.
What is the 4% rule?
A rule of thumb from US studies: withdrawing 4% of your savings in the first year of retirement, then adjusting for inflation, lasted at least 30 years in most historical periods. It is a guide, not a guarantee.
Are the amounts in today’s money?
Tick “show in today’s money” to take inflation out, so the result is easier to compare with what things cost now.
