Discount calculator

Find the sale price and your savings after a discount, stack a second discount, or work out the percentage off from two prices.

Sale price

How it works

sale price = price × (1 − discount ÷ 100)discount % = (price − sale) ÷ price × 100

A second discount is taken from the already reduced price.

Worked example

A $80 jacket, 25% off, then 10% off at the till:

  1. 80 × 0.75 = 60
  2. 60 × 0.90 = 54
  3. You pay $54 and save $26 (32.5%)

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount?

Multiply the price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the savings, then subtract them from the price. 25% off 80 is 80 × 0.25 = 20 off, so 60.

How do two discounts add up?

They multiply, they do not add. 20% off and then another 10% off is 0.8 × 0.9 = 0.72, a total discount of 28%, not 30%.

How do I find the discount percentage from two prices?

Divide the difference by the original price: (80 − 60) ÷ 80 × 100 = 25%.
