Tip calculator

Enter the bill, choose a tip and the number of people to see the tip, the total and what each person pays.

Each person pays

How it works

tip = bill × tip% ÷ 100per person = (bill + tip) ÷ people

Worked example

A $86.40 bill, 15% tip, three people:

  1. 86.40 × 0.15 = 12.96
  2. 86.40 + 12.96 = 99.36
  3. 99.36 ÷ 3 = $33.12 each

Frequently asked questions

How much should I tip?

It depends on the country. In the US 15–20% at a restaurant is usual; in much of Europe service is included or a small round-up is enough. The buttons offer common amounts.

Should the tip be on the amount before or after tax?

Many people tip on the amount before tax. Enter the pre-tax amount if you prefer that.

What does rounding up do?

It rounds each person’s share up to the next whole amount, so nobody has to deal with cents. The tip grows by the difference.
