Meta tag generator

Write the title and description of a page, see how they look in search results, and copy the meta, Open Graph and Twitter tags.

The preview is approximate: search engines may rewrite titles and snippets.

How it works

Lengths are measured in pixels with the same font size search results use, since a title of wide letters (W, M) is cut sooner than one of narrow letters. The tags are escaped for HTML and can be pasted into the <head> of the page.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a title and description be?

Search engines cut titles at about 600 pixels (roughly 50–60 characters) and descriptions at about 920 pixels (roughly 150–160 characters). The counters warn you before that.

Do meta descriptions help ranking?

Not directly, but a clear description that matches the search makes more people click your result. Search engines may also write their own snippet.

What are Open Graph and Twitter tags for?

They control the title, text and image shown when the page is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, X and messengers. Use an image of at least 1200 × 630 pixels.
