Which system should I use for a passport?
ICAO Doc 9303, which Russian and Ukrainian passports use for the Latin name (Russia since 2014, Ukraine with its own official table). Use the name exactly as it already appears in your passport for tickets and visas.
Why do Russian and Ukrainian differ?
The same letters sound different: Ukrainian г is h (Hryhorii), и is y and і is i, while Russian г is g and и is i. Pick the language of the text.
What is the “simple” style for?
Readable Latin for URLs, file names and chats: no apostrophes or special characters.
