Unix timestamp converter

Convert a Unix timestamp to a readable date in UTC and your time zone, or a date and time back to a timestamp.

Current Unix timeseconds since 1 January 1970 UTC

How it works

date = 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z + timestamp seconds

Numbers with 12 or more digits are read as milliseconds. Dates are shown in UTC, in your browser’s time zone and as ISO 8601.

Worked example

  1. 1800000000 s
  2. ÷ 86,400 = 20,833.33 days after 1970-01-01
  3. 2027-01-15 08:00:00 UTC

Frequently asked questions

What is a Unix timestamp?

The number of seconds since 1 January 1970 00:00:00 UTC (the Unix epoch), not counting leap seconds. It is the same everywhere in the world at a given moment.

Seconds or milliseconds?

Unix and most servers use seconds (10 digits today); JavaScript and many APIs use milliseconds (13 digits). The converter detects which one you entered.

What is the year 2038 problem?

Systems that store the timestamp as a signed 32-bit number overflow on 19 January 2038 at 03:14:07 UTC. 64-bit timestamps do not have this limit.
